Business Process Testing

Test a new business process, system or service, with a ring fenced team and a live operational environment dedicated to your project. Remove the competing priorities and limitations of business as usual, gather real-world evidence and refine the operating model within a defined project scope, before committing to scale.

Take the Test Outside Business as Usual

Testing a new process inside an established operation can make it difficult to establish whether the process itself really works. Existing teams have day-to-day responsibilities. Managers have competing priorities. Existing structures, resource constraints and established ways of working can all influence the outcome of a pilot. Lemon gives you the opportunity to separate the test from business as usual.

We create a dedicated, ring-fenced team around the process, allowing it to operate in a live environment with defined workflows, objectives and measures. That gives you the space to test the process on its own merits, understand what works, identify what needs to change and build real operational evidence before deciding what happens next. You can then refine it, scale it, bring it into your own operation, outsource it or decide not to proceed. The test happens outside your BAU operation. The learning comes back into your business.

What Processes Can You Test?

Process testing can be used wherever you need operational evidence before committing to a wider rollout. This could include:

  • Customer on-boarding
  • Product support
  • New software deployment
  • Complaint handling
  • Appointment booking
  • Absence reporting
  • Case management
  • Customer service processes
  • Back-office administration
  • New customer contact channels
  • Extended operating hours
  • New workflows and operating models
  • Processes being considered for outsourcing

The process doesn't need to be fully proven before you speak to us. That's the purpose of the pilot.

How Does Process Testing Work?

Process testing is delivered through dedicated Lemon resource. We create a ring-fenced team with dedicated capacity to operate and test it properly. The size of the team and length of the pilot are determined by the process, the expected workload and what you need to learn. We can work with your existing systems, processes and workflows, or help establish the operational model required for the pilot. This gives you a defined environment and controlled commitment in which to understand how the process performs before making the decision on how to proceed.

Test. Measure. Refine.

A successful pilot starts by understanding what you are trying to establish. Before the process goes live, we'll work with you to define the requirement, establish the operating model and agree the measures that will help determine whether it is working. Once live, the pilot provides real operational evidence. That could include volumes, handling times, resource requirements, customer outcomes, service levels, process exceptions and other measures specific to the process being tested. Those insights can then be used to refine the process and inform the next decision.

What Happens After the Pilot?

Process testing doesn't assume that outsourcing is the final answer. The purpose is to give you the evidence needed to decide what happens next. You may choose to:

  • Scale the process with Lemon
  • Extend the pilot to gather further evidence
  • Refine the process and test it again
  • Bring the proven process into your own operation
  • Integrate it into a wider outsourcing model
  • Decide not to proceed

If the process proves successful and you want Lemon to continue operating it, the dedicated team can scale with the requirement. The important thing is that the decision comes after the test, not before it, and there is no tie-in or commitment beyond the initial project scope.

  • 24/7 operational capability
  • Dedicated UK-based teams
  • Flexible team sizes and operating hours
  • Experience managing customer-facing and back-office processes
  • Integration with client systems and workflows
  • Operational reporting and performance management
  • ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certified operations
  • The ability to scale successful processes into longer-term dedicated solutions

You provide the process you want to test. We provide the operational environment to test it.

What is business process testing?
Process testing allows an organisation to run a new or redesigned business process in a live operational environment before committing to a wider rollout. Lemon provides dedicated resource to operate the process for an agreed pilot period, allowing performance to be measured and the operating model to be refined.
Do we have to outsource the process permanently?
No. The purpose of process testing is to help you determine whether the process works and what the most appropriate long-term operating model should be. You can scale with Lemon, bring the process in-house, modify it, extend the pilot or decide not to proceed.
How long does a process testing pilot last?
There is no fixed duration. The appropriate pilot period depends on the process, expected volumes and the amount of operational evidence required to make a meaningful assessment. We'll agree this with you before the pilot begins.
How many people do we need?
Process testing uses dedicated FTE resource, but there is no fixed team size. We'll determine the appropriate resource based on the process, workload, operating hours and objectives of the pilot.
Can Lemon use our existing systems?
Yes. Where appropriate, Lemon teams can work within client systems and workflows, with access and integration requirements established during implementation.
Can the team scale if the process works?
Yes. If the pilot demonstrates that the process works and you want Lemon to continue operating it, we can increase dedicated resource and develop the operating model as volumes and requirements grow.
What types of processes can Lemon test?
We can support a wide range of customer-facing and back-office processes, including customer service, on-boarding, case management, appointment booking, absence reporting, complaint handling, administration and other structured operational workflows. If you're unsure whether a particular process is suitable, talk to us about what you're trying to achieve.

Create a dedicated operational pilot with Lemon, gather real-world evidence and make the decision about what happens next from a position of knowledge.
